General Azhari was the commander of the land force in the Shah period, and for 55 days, in the year that Islamic Revolution took place, he was the Prime Minister of Iran.
Azhari was a military leader and Prime Minister of Iran from 6 November 1978 to 31 December 1978. He was appointed by the Shah to lead a military government at the time of growing protests in the country. He was the first military prime minister in Iran since 1953.
General Azhari was born in Shiraz in 1912 or 1917. He studied law at the University of Tehran and worked as a reporter for Ettela’at, a leading newspaper. He was also a member of the Toilers Party of the Iranian Nation, a leftist party that opposed the monarchy of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi.
Azhari is famous because he did not want to admit to the King that the demonstrations were serious, and a great number of people have come to protest in the streets. He said these sounds aren’t real and they are just voices that revolutionists recorded to provoke other people.
