Mohammad Mosaddegh was a prominent Iranian politician who served as the prime minister of Iran from 1951 to 1953. He is best known for his nationalization of the Iranian oil industry, which was previously controlled by the British. He also advocated for democracy and human rights in Iran and opposed the influence of foreign powers. He was overthrown in a coup d’état orchestrated by the CIA and MI6 in 1953 and spent the rest of his life under house arrest.
The Darcy Agreement, which was reached between Muzaffaruddin Shah and Britain during the Qajar era, was annulled as a result of his actions. The British company received all the rights to find and extract Iranian oil under the terms of this contract, and in exchange, Iran received a relatively small portion of the British company’s revenues.
Following the cancellation of this contract, Britain sued the Hague Court but was also found guilty there, turning Iran’s oil production into a permanent national enterprise.
